ABOUT THE ARTIST - Allie Rae Daly

Allie Rae Daly (@antilocapra_atelier) is a self-taught naturalist and painter based in Bozeman, Montana. Born in Colorado, she has spent her life observing and studying the natural world, with a particular focus on wildlife and the ecosystems they inhabit.

She founded Antilocapra Atelier in 2023 as a space to share her work. Her background in ornithology and years of field experience continue to inform her practice, shaping a perspective rooted in close observation, respect, and an understanding of the delicate relationships within wild systems. Drawing inspiration from early American naturalists, conservationists, and artists such as Ernest Thompson Seton, Aldo Leopold, Albert Bierstadt, John James Audubon, and Fidelia Bridges, her work reflects a deep appreciation for both the wildlife and landscapes of North America. The traditions of American hunting culture have further shaped her perspective, fostering a profound respect for the endemic species that frequently appear in her art. Only recently has she begun offering her work full time.

Her work explores the connection between animal, land, and story. Through her art, Allie honors the lives of the animals that sustain us and the landscapes that shape them. She is committed to supporting conservation efforts and works with local partners to give back through her art.

Drawing inspiration from the traditions of early American naturalists, Allie created this bull elk portrait using Japanese gansai watercolors on watercolor paper. The antlers were drawn from a mismatched set of sheds collected by Allie and her husband while shed hunting. The piece is both a study of elk and a reflection of cherished experiences in the field.
